Today’s, HTC Vive conference in China hasn’t exactly been the most exciting – in comparison to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) Paris Games Week PlayStation press conference – with very little news related to videogames. What HTC has revealed in terms of content is to do with access via Viveport, revealing three new subscription services for the platform.
Originally, the Viveport subscription service featured just one option, a monthly cost of £6.99 GBP that auto-renewed, giving subscribers access to five pieces of content each month. At the start of a new month users could either keep the videogames for longer or swap them out for new titles.
Now there a three new Viveport subscription plans, each covering a certain amount of months, saving customers money they longer they subscribe. So there’s a three-month plan for £19.99, a six-month plan for £39.99 or a 12-month plan for £79.99. Each works exactly the same as before offering five titles per month that are then swappable. So if you paid the standard monthly cost of £6.99 over 12 months you’d spend £83.88. With a plan you’d save a little bit of cash.
The company does note on the website: “Viveport Subscription plans cannot be canceled or refunded after purchase. After your current plan is complete, your subscription will continue to auto-renew monthly, which can be canceled at any time.”
Of course if you’ve not signed up yet there’s still the free one month trial to test out.
The major announcement from today’s conference has been hardware related, with HTC Vive announcing the Vive Focus standalone headset for the Chinese market. Not only has the name been officially confirmed but also the first look at the headset. This unveiling is only for the Chinese market as VRFocus previously reported that Rikard Steiber, President Viveport and SVP confirmed there would be separate headsets for Western and Asian markets.
