It all started when Nike sent photographer Von Wong a pair of Vapormax shoes. “What would you do if you could walk on air?” they asked.

Wong knew exactly what he would do. Paying homage to his childhood dream of possessing superhero powers that would allow him to defy gravity, this photographer put together a photo shoot that sees athletes running on the side of buildings.

“As an adult, I began to realize that the laws of physics didn’t care much for my dreams," Wong says. "Unwilling to give up so easily, I found other ways to adapt—using my camera to bend reality and shift perspectives.”

And so he did. For this Nike shoot, Wong gathered unsung heroes to wear form-fitting harnesses while running on the side of buildings in Manila, Philippines.

“After an intense brainstorming session and a restless night of sleep," Wong says, "I made a commitment to pitch ‘crazy’ rationalizing that if they were reaching out to me… it was probably not to do something conservative.”

The photos are incredible and the metaphor is inspiring: these are real-life heroes who make a difference in their community.
