VR Whisky Tasting Experience from Glenfiddich

There’s a certain mental image conjured up when scotch whiskey is mentioned. Big stone castles, roaring open fires, comfy leather armchairs and a glass of scotch in your hand. Or perhaps the view of the distillery where Glenfiddich whisky has been made since 1887. With a new virtual reality (VR) experience, that is now possible.

Glenfiddich have teamed up with design agency Purple Creative to offer a whisky tasting VR experience to attendees of the TFWA Conference in Singapore. The experience takes the user to the Glenfiddich warehouse in Dufftown, Scotland, surrounded by oak casks and have Solera vats. The user is then able to select a vat and write tasting notes in the air with a VR brush, creating a ribbon effect with colours to match the surroundings.

“Glenfiddich is a family run company with a rich history of innovation and pioneering, so it’s fitting that they are the first whisky company to embrace this new tech and enable drinkers to write their own virtual tasting notes,” said Gary Westlake, founding partner and creative director, Purple Creative.

“VR is allowing us to interact with people in a whole new way, and the beautiful imagery that Purple created for this project means that whisky drinkers can express their tasting notes in a completely individual fashion, and in a completely new medium,” said Coralie Vial, Glenfiddich global brand manager.

The Glenfiddich Virtual Infinity experience will be available in selected airports around the world for buys of it’s Cask Collection whiskies. It has not yet been revealed when the experience will be released, however. A video trailer for the experience is available to view below.

VRFocus will bring you futher news on new VR experiences when it becomes available.
