Apple finally has its own solution for bringing Live Photos to the web

Live Photos is a fun image generator from Apple that creates GIFs when you take photos with an iPhone. The tool is primarily optimized for mobile viewing (Tumblr brought Live Photos to the web last fall,) but a new Apple API should help sharing Live Photos on desktops easier.

The LivePhotosKit JavaScript API, as uncovered by 9to5Mac, lets developers add Live Photos playback on their web apps. It also enables users to share Live Photos on macOS, in addition to iOS. While it does mean you’ll need to wait until third party apps integrate the API, considering that social networks like Facebook and Instagram has supported Live Photos as a Boomerang share, it shouldn’t be long until other big apps jump on board. That’s the hope, anyway.
